Ahrefs: AI search optimization is mostly SEO with extra steps

Ahrefs' Mateusz Makosiewicz pulls together statements from Google and Microsoft saying AI Overviews, Copilot and the rest still run on the same core search systems. So the foundation hasn't moved: crawlable, indexable, useful content. There's some nuance on how answers pull and cite pages, but nothing you'd call a separate discipline. Worth reading before you pay for a "GEO" retainer or sell one. Have you seen a ranking or traffic change from AI search that normal SEO factors couldn't explain? — How to Optimize for AI Search: A Guide for You and Your AI Agent Ahrefs — Mateusz Makosiewicz https://ahrefs.com/blog/how-to-optimize-for-ai-search/

"Good PR under a new name" is a good pull. From the social side, a lot of that getting mentioned happens on LinkedIn too, when people share your stuff and talk about it in their own posts.

This matches how I see it. A page that's clear, well structured and actually answers the question tends to do well in both places. Most of the extra steps come down to getting mentioned on other sites, which is good PR under a new name.
