OpenAI may bring third party style tracking to ChatGPT ads

MarTech reports that OpenAI is testing a persistent identifier for ads inside ChatGPT, which could give advertisers more ways to measure ad performance. If the approach moves forward, it could also raise new questions around consent, privacy, and how advertisers handle data from a conversational platform. For agencies and marketers considering emerging ad channels, this raises an important practical question: How are you thinking about privacy and consent when evaluating advertising opportunities on AI platforms? _ OpenAI testing third party style tracking in ChatGPT ads MarTech, Constantine von Hoffman https://martech.org/openai-testing-third-party-style-tracking-in-chatgpt-ads/

Funny, social has the same lesson which is nuts. Every time a platform changes how reach works, it feels like the accounts with their own list or community are the ones who barely notice. Totally with you on building your own list.

Email went through its own version of this when consent rules tightened and Apple Mail started hiding opens. The brands with the least to rebuild were the ones that leaned on tracking the least. I'd expect ads on AI platforms to go the same way, which is one more reason to keep building your own list.
