How to Add a Popup to Your Landing Page in Leadpages

When someone clicks a button on your landing page, you want it to be easy for them to take the next step. But if that button sends them scrolling down the page to find a form, there's an extra step between their interest and your offer.

With Leadpages, you can open a popup right from the button they clicked. Build it in the page editor, customize it to match your design, and choose when it appears, whether that's after a click, a delay, a scroll, or an exit intent.

Log into your Leadpages account and add a popup to a page you've already built.

How to add a popup in six easy steps

01: Open Pop-up from the Add menu

In the page editor, open the Add menu in the bottom toolbar. Under Elements, select Pop-up to browse the available templates. Each template pulls in existing copy from your page, so you have a starting point instead of building everything from scratch.

02: Choose a template

There are three templates to choose from:

Lead capture: Includes a headline, email field, and submit button. The copy is pulled from your page's hero section.
Welcome offer: Uses the offer from your page's hero section and adds an email gate. This will be useful when you're sending visitors to a page from a specific email campaign and want the popup to reinforce that offer.
Exit intent: Displays a single call to action based on your page's primary action. It appears when a visitor is about to leave your page, giving them another opportunity to take the next step.

03: Name your popup

Give your popup a name that's easy to recognize later. Once you create it, the popup automatically picks up your page's existing styles, helping it look consistent with the rest of your design.

04: Customize the design

Select the popup to open its Style and Layout settings on the right. From there, you can adjust details such as spacing and padding.

05: Choose when the popup appears

Open the Settings tab to control when and how visitors see your popup.

After a delay: Show the popup after a set amount of time has passed since the page loaded.
On exit intent: Show the popup when a visitor appears ready to leave. This option is available on desktop only and triggers when the cursor moves toward the address bar.
After scrolling: Choose how far down the page someone needs to scroll before the popup appears.
Frequency: Set how many visits occur before the popup appears and how many days must pass before it can appear again.
Overlay: Adjust the darkness of the background behind the popup. You can also let visitors close it by clicking outside the popup.
Close button: Choose whether to display an X in the corner and whether visitors can close the popup by pressing Escape.
Animation: Choose how the popup appears on the page.

You can open a popup directly from a button instead of sending visitors to another section of your page.

For example, say your navigation includes a Free Estimate button that currently scrolls visitors down to a form. You can change that button to open your popup instead.

Select the button and find its Link URL field. Type # and choose your popup from the list of available popups on the page. If your button is part of your navigation, you may need to select the navigation container, open Settings, and expand Primary CTA under CTA button to find the field.

Move the form you already have into the popup

If your page already has a form, you don't need to rebuild it. Select the form, copy it (Command + C, or Control + C on Windows), select the popup's section container, and paste it (Command + V, or Control + V). Delete the form the popup came with, and your existing form sits inside the popup, responsive and ready for visitors.

Reuse your popup on other pages

You don't have to build the same popup from scratch for every page. Once you've created one, you can reuse it elsewhere.

Open the Add menu, select Pop-up, and look under Existing pop-ups. Find the popup you want and drag it onto your page.

When does a popup make sense?

Popups are useful when you want to make the next step easier for someone who's already interested in your offer.

For example, if a visitor clicks "Free Estimate," opening the form in a popup lets them get started immediately instead of scrolling down the page to find it.

You can still keep a form at the bottom of your page for visitors who prefer to read everything before taking action. The two approaches work together.
